Atropine eye ointment (5g) is a medication used to dilate the pupil and relax the eye muscles. It contains atropine sulfate, an anticholinergic agent that blocks the responses of the eye's muscles to stimulation.

Uses

• Mydriasis (Pupil Dilation): Used before eye exams or surgery.
• Cycloplegia: Temporarily paralyzes the ciliary muscle to relieve eye strain.
• Amblyopia (Lazy Eye): Helps in vision therapy by blurring vision in the stronger eye.
• Uveitis/Iritis: Reduces pain and inflammation by preventing muscle spasms in the eye.

Dosage & Application

• Apply a small amount inside the lower eyelid as directed by a doctor.
• Usually applied once or twice daily.
• Wash hands before and after use.
• Avoid touching the tip of the tube to prevent contamination.

Side Effects

• Temporary blurred vision
• Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
• Eye irritation or redness
• Dry mouth
• Increased heart rate (rare)

Precautions

• Avoid driving or operating machinery after use due to blurred vision.
• Not recommended for narrow-angle glaucoma patients.
