BD Alcohal Swab

Uses:
- Skin Disinfection Before Injections: Prepares the skin for intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intradermal injections by cleaning the site.
- Preparation for Blood Tests: Cleans the venipuncture site prior to blood draws, reducing the risk of infection.
- Glucose Monitoring: Used to clean fingertips before self-monitoring blood glucose levels, ensuring accurate readings.
- Minor Skin Procedures: Suitable for general antiseptic skin cleansing for small cuts, scrapes, or other minor procedures (ensure skin is intact).
- First Aid Kits: An essential component for maintaining hygiene and preventing infection in emergency or home first aid situations.
Directions of Use
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the swab.
- Tear open the individual foil packet of the BD Alcohal Swab.
- Remove the pre-moistened swab from its packaging.
- Wipe the targeted skin area firmly in a single direction or a circular motion, moving outwards from the center of the site.
- Allow the area to air dry completely for at least 30 seconds before any procedure (e.g., injection, blood draw) to ensure maximum antiseptic effect and prevent stinging.
- Dispose of the used BD Alcohal Swab in a waste bin. Do not flush.
Side effects
When used as directed for external skin preparation, the BD Alcohal Swab is generally well-tolerated. However, some individuals may experience:
- Skin dryness or flaking: Alcohol can strip natural oils from the skin, especially with frequent use.
- Mild irritation or redness: Particularly in individuals with sensitive skin.
- Stinging sensation: If applied to broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes.
Discontinue use if significant irritation, discomfort, or allergic reaction occurs. For external use only. If accidentally ingested or if severe irritation develops, seek medical attention immediately.
