CLOCIP contains clotrimazole which belongs to the group of medicines called azole antifungal agents. It is used to manage fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm, fungal nappy rash (in babies) and fungal sweat rash. It can also be used to manage irritation of the vulva (external thrush) or irritation at the tip of the penis (penile thrush). External thrush is a common fungal infection caused by the aggravation of the fungi, that usually lives harmlessly in the vagina or vulva.

Penile thrush often occurs by having sexual intercourse with the partner having vaginal thrush and is characterized by redness and soreness of the penis with a white non-smelling penile discharge. Topically applied clotrimazole acts by blocking the biosynthesis of fungal ergosterol which leads to the disruption of fungal cell membrane and inhibition of fungal growth. This medicine is for external use only. Do not swallow it. Your doctor will decide the duration of the therapy depending upon the type of the infection.

Along with the management, try to keep the infected area clean by washing it daily. Always wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes and change your sanitary protection regularly. Try not to share your towels and bathmats with other people, as it could prevent the spread of infection. The most common side effects of CLOCIP are application site redness, swelling, itching, burning or peeling. Contact your doctor if any of the symptom bothers you.
