Type: Anticoagulant (blood thinner)

Uses:

• Prevents blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat)
• Reduces risk of stroke
• Used after hip or knee replacement surgery to prevent clot formation
• Treats and prevents deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)

How to Use:

• Take orally with or without food, as prescribed by the doctor
• Swallow whole with water, do not chew or crush
• Take at the same time every day

Common Side Effects:

• Bleeding (nose, gums, or internal)
• Stomach pain or indigestion
• Nausea
• Anemia

Precautions:

• Not advised in patients with active bleeding or severe kidney problems
• Inform doctor before surgery or dental procedures
• Avoid using with other blood thinners unless prescribed
