Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet is an anticoagulant medicine, commonly known as a blood thinner. It works by preventing and treating the formation of harmful blood clots in various parts of the body, including the veins of your legs, lungs, brain, and heart. The active ingredient in Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet is Apixaban 2.5mg. This medicine is primarily used to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack, especially in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation). It also helps prevent blood clots in individuals who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries.

Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. For best results and to maintain consistent levels in your body, it's recommended to take it at the same time each day. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for an extended period, potentially for many years or even for life, depending on your condition.

It is crucial not to stop taking Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet or change your dose without consulting your doctor. Doing so could rapidly increase your risk of developing a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis (blood clot formation). Alongside medication, lifestyle changes such as not smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management can further help reduce your risk of blood clots.

The most common side effect of Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet is an increased tendency to bleed, which may manifest as nosebleeds or easy bruising. Other potential side effects include low blood pressure, nausea, and skin rash. If you experience any concerning symptoms, inform your doctor immediately.

Avoid taking Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet if you have severe kidney or liver problems, are currently experiencing active bleeding, or are already on other medications that reduce blood clotting. Unlike some other anticoagulants, regular blood tests (like PT-INR) are generally not required while on this medication. It is also advised not to breastfeed while using Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet.

Uses:

  1. Reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
  2. Treats deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
  3. Reduces the risk of recurrent DVT and PE.
  4. Prevents DVT, which may lead to PE, in patients who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery.

Directions of Use

Take Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor, following the advised dose and duration. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break it unless specifically instructed by a healthcare professional (e.g., if mixing with food/liquid due to swallowing difficulties). Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take it at a fixed time each day to maintain consistent medication levels.
