The Femilon Tablet is a combination medicine containing Ethinyl Estradiol 0.02mg and Desogestrel 0.15mg, primarily used for contraception to prevent pregnancy and to manage irregular periods. This oral contraceptive works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries and hindering its fertilization by sperm. It may also offer the added benefit of reducing the risk of ovarian cancer.

You can take Femilon Tablet with or without food, but it's crucial to take it at the same time each day to maximize its effectiveness. Always follow your doctor's instructions for dosage and duration. Typically, you will start the pill on day one of your menstrual cycle and continue taking it for a full month. Once a pack is finished, begin a new one immediately. If you experience vomiting within 4 hours of taking a dose, take another tablet. Should you miss a dose and realize it more than 12 hours late, it's advised to use a condom during intercourse for the next 2 days to ensure protection against pregnancy.

Common side effects associated with Femilon Tablet include nausea, headache, breast pain, and weight gain. If these effects bother you or seem severe, please inform your doctor. There might be strategies to lessen or prevent them. You might also notice spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods, or even missed periods. Consult your doctor if these occur frequently or persist. Be aware of signs like swelling and pain in your limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, or changes in vision, as these could indicate a blood clot and require immediate medical attention.

Before starting Femilon Tablet, inform your doctor if you smoke, especially if you are over 35, or if you have a history of heart attack, or cancer of the uterus, cervix, or vagina. It's also essential to disclose all other medicines you are taking, as some can interfere with the effectiveness of Femilon Tablet. This medicine should not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor may recommend regular check-ups for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels while you are on this treatment.
