Uses

Folitrax 10 mg Tablet is prescribed for:

  • Autoimmune Disorders:
    • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
    • Psoriatic arthritis
    • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
    • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis
    • Vasculitis
    • Myositis
    • Uveitis

  • Cancer Treatment:
    • Acute leukemias
    • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
    • Solid tumors (breast, lung, head, neck, bladder, cervix, ovaries, testicles)

    • Advanced-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma

How It Works

Methotrexate in Folitrax inhibits DNA synthesis, suppressing the immune system and reducing inflammation. This action helps manage autoimmune diseases and slows the growth of cancer cells.


Dosage & Administration

  • Typical Dosage:
    • For autoimmune conditions: Often administered once a week.
    • For cancer treatment: Dosing varies based on the specific condition and treatment regimen.
  • Administration:
    • Take as prescribed by your doctor.
    • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
    • Can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Stomach pain or mouth sores
  • Hair loss
  • Fatigue or dizziness
  • Decreased appetite
  • Liver enzyme elevation
  • Decreased blood cell counts (red, white, platelets)

Note: Folitrax may suppress the immune system, increasing susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are recommended to monitor liver function and blood cell counts.


Precautions

  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
    • Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
    • Women of childbearing age should avoid pregnancy for at least 6 months after treatment.
  • Liver & Kidney Function:
    • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disorders.
    • Dose adjustments may be necessary.
  • Folic Acid Supplementation:
    • Folic acid may be prescribed alongside Folitrax to reduce side effects like mouth ulcers and liver toxicity.
