Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg is a nutritional supplement combining Calcitriol, Calcium carbonate, and Zinc sulphate. It is primarily used in adults to manage conditions associated with low blood calcium levels. These conditions include chronic kidney failure, osteodystrophy (bone issues linked to kidney disease or calcium/phosphorus imbalances), and osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones, often due to aging).
This medicine, Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg, also helps manage hypoparathyroidism (when parathyroid glands do not produce enough parathyroid hormone, leading to low blood calcium), rickets (softening bones in children) or osteomalacia (softening bones in adults) caused by insufficient vitamin D, after small bowel resection, and certain skin conditions like psoriasis (dry, itchy, scaly patches).
To ensure proper absorption, avoid taking Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg within 2 hours of consuming foods high in oxalic acid (like spinach and rhubarb), phosphate (like organ meats), or phytic acid (found in whole grains). Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg is not suitable for individuals with conditions that cause high blood calcium or vitamin D levels, such as certain cancers (myeloma, bone metastases), primary hyperparathyroidism, or hypervitaminosis D.
Patients with liver problems or kidney issues, including kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), calcium deposits in the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis), or kidney failure, should use Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg with caution and under medical supervision.
Generally, Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg is not advised for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, or adolescents unless specifically recommended by a doctor. Elderly patients should use this medicine with caution, as directed by their healthcare provider.
Common side effects of Gemcal Capsule 0.25mcg may include muscle pain, weakness, headache, excessive sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, and dry mouth. If any of these side effects worsen or become bothersome, please consult your doctor.
