Glucobay 25mg Tablet, containing Acarbose 25mg, is a medication primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. This alpha-glucosidase inhibitor works to help lower blood sugar levels, particularly after meals, by slowing the digestion of carbohydrates. It is frequently prescribed in combination with other diabetes medications to achieve optimal blood sugar control.

It is important to take Glucobay 25mg Tablet just before or along with the first few bites of your meal. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and frequency for you to effectively manage your blood sugar levels, and the dosage may be adjusted gradually. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor, as discontinuing it could lead to increased blood sugar levels and a higher risk of serious complications such as kidney damage or blindness.

Treatment with Glucobay 25mg Tablet is an integral part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan that should also include a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and weight management, as advised by your healthcare provider. Consistent monitoring of your blood sugar levels is recommended while using this medicine.

Common side effects associated with Glucobay 25mg Tablet include gastrointestinal discomfort and flatulence. If these side effects bother you or do not subside, please consult your doctor. When taken alone, Glucobay 25mg Tablet (Acarbose) typically does not cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). However, if it's used alongside other diabetes medications (especially insulin or sulfonylureas), there is a risk of low blood sugar. Such episodes of hypoglycemia should be treated by consuming plain glucose. Note that common table sugar will not be effective in correcting low blood sugar when you are taking Glucobay 25mg Tablet.

Before starting Glucobay 25mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver conditions. This medicine should not be taken if you have inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, or any ulceration in the bowel. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using Glucobay 25mg Tablet. Always inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking to ensure safe treatment. Avoiding excessive alcohol intake while on Glucobay 25mg Tablet is advisable, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels).
