The Losar 25mg Tablet contains Losartan 25mg, an active ingredient belonging to a class of medicines known as Angiotensin II receptor antagonists. This medicine is primarily used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults, as well as in children and adolescents aged 6-18 years.
Beyond blood pressure management, Losar 25mg Tablet is also prescribed to protect the kidneys in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes. It is indicated for individuals with chronic heart failure when ACE (angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors) medicines are not effective or suitable. Furthermore, Losar 25mg Tablet helps reduce the risk of stroke in patients who have high blood pressure along with thickening of the left ventricle.
Do not take Losar 25mg Tablet if you are allergic to Losartan 25mg or any of its components. It is also not recommended for patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function.
Before starting Losar 25mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you have a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue) or if you are experiencing excessive vomiting or diarrhoea. Also disclose if you have primary hyperaldosteronism (a condition with increased aldosterone hormone secretion), kidney problems (such as narrowing of blood vessels to one or both kidneys), or heart conditions (like heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia, or coronary heart disease).
Losar 25mg Tablet is not advised during early pregnancy and is strictly contraindicated after the first 3 months of pregnancy, as it can cause serious harm to the baby. It is also not recommended for use by breastfeeding women as the medicine may pass into breast milk.
Losar 25mg Tablet is not suitable for children under 6 years of age. For children and adolescents aged 6-18 years, it should be used with caution and only after consulting a doctor. Elderly patients (above 75 years of age) should also use this medicine with caution and under medical guidance.
The most common side effects associated with taking Losar 25mg Tablet include dizziness, general weakness, tiredness, and low blood sugar (which may manifest as a fast heartbeat, shaking, or sweating). Changes in kidney function (such as decreased urine output, oedema, or shortness of breath) and anaemia may also occur. If any of these symptoms worsen or persist, consult your doctor.
