Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops is an effective nasal decongestant specifically formulated for children (1-11 years old) to provide relief from a blocked nose. It is commonly used for symptoms associated with colds, allergic rhinitis (including hay fever), perennial rhinitis, and sinusitis. The active ingredient, xylometazoline hydrochloride, works quickly to reduce swelling and congestion in the nasal passages, helping your child breathe more easily. By reducing excessive nasal secretions and returning swollen blood vessels to their normal size, Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops helps to clear the airways.

Always use Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage or use this medication for more than 10 consecutive days, as prolonged use can lead to rebound congestion or worsening of nasal stuffiness. This product is not suitable for children under 1 year of age.

Uses:

  1. Relief of nasal congestion associated with common colds.
  2. Management of perennial and allergic rhinitis, including hay fever symptoms.
  3. Alleviation of stuffy nose due to sinusitis.

Directions of Use

How To Use Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops

  • Before using Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops, gently clean your child's nose to ensure effectiveness.
  • Have your child tilt their head slightly back to a comfortable position.
  • Carefully administer 1-2 drops into each nostril for children aged 1-5 years, usually once or twice daily (every 8 to 10 hours). For children aged 6-11 years, the recommended dosage is 2 to 3 drops per nostril daily, or as advised by your doctor.
  • Ensure the dropper tip does not touch the inside of the nose to maintain hygiene and prevent infection.
  • Keep the head tilted back for a short period after application to allow the drops to spread effectively throughout the nasal passages.
  • If a drop completely misses the nostril, you may administer it again. If any part of the drop enters the nose, do not repeat the dose immediately.
  • Repeat with another nostril.
  • To prevent the spread of infection, each bottle of Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops should ideally be used by only one child.
  • Do not exceed 3 applications daily into each nostril. It's often helpful to make the last application shortly before bedtime.
  • Always follow the specific instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist regarding dosage and frequency.

Side effects

While generally well-tolerated, Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops may cause some side effects in children. These can include a local burning sensation, irritation, or dryness within the nasal passages (nasal mucosa). Nausea and headaches have also been reported. If your child experiences any of these or other unexpected side effects, it is important to stop using the drops and consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
