Pyricontin 100mg Tablet is a combination medicine containing Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) and Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6), both essential B Vitamins. This medication is primarily used to address anaemia caused by vitamin deficiency, such as folate-based megaloblastic anaemia. It is also prescribed during pregnancy to help prevent neural tube defects in babies, like spina bifida, and for anaemia following stomach surgery (gastrectomy).

The Pyricontin 100mg Tablet also helps manage anaemia resulting from chronic red blood cell breakdown (haemolytic states) or kidney dialysis. It's effective in treating Pellagra (a serious vitamin B deficiency) and idiopathic sideroblastic anaemia, where red blood cells don't form correctly. Additionally, it can be used alongside other medicines to manage vitamin B12 deficiency (pernicious anaemia).

Symptoms of vitamin B deficiency can include skin inflammation, tongue inflammation, diarrhoea, disorientation, depression, and confusion. Pyricontin 100mg Tablet can also help manage sprue, a condition where the gut struggles to absorb food, and nerve damage (peripheral neuritis) linked to isoniazid, a medication for tuberculosis.

Always consult your doctor before taking Pyricontin 100mg Tablet, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. While generally safe, some individuals may experience mild side effects like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or an upset stomach. If these symptoms persist or worsen, please consult your doctor promptly.

Uses:

  1. Manages various forms of anaemia caused by vitamin deficiencies, including folate-based megaloblastic anaemia, anaemia during pregnancy, or anaemia following stomach removal (gastrectomy).
  2. Helps prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida in babies, especially in women at risk.
  3. Addresses anaemia related to chronic red blood cell breakdown (haemolytic states) or kidney dialysis.
  4. Treats sprue, a condition impairing nutrient absorption in the gut.
  5. Manages Pellagra (a severe vitamin B deficiency) which presents with symptoms like skin inflammation (dermatitis), tongue inflammation, diarrhoea, disorientation, depression, and confusion.
  6. Used as an adjunct therapy (in combination with other medications) for managing Vitamin B12 deficiency, specifically pernicious anaemia.
  7. Manages idiopathic sideroblastic anaemia, a condition characterized by improper red blood cell formation.
  8. Helps manage nerve damage (peripheral neuritis), particularly when caused by the tuberculosis medication, isoniazid.

Directions of Use

Always take Pyricontin 100mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is generally recommended to swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, preferably after food to minimize any potential stomach upset. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. It is crucial not to alter your dose or stop taking Pyricontin 100mg Tablet even if you feel better, without first consulting your doctor. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of treatment based on your age, body weight, and the specific condition being treated.
