What It Contains
Each tablet contains:
- Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg
It is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Main Uses
Tamsooth-0.4 is primarily used to treat:
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in men, common after age 50
- It helps relieve symptoms like:
- Frequent urination (especially at night)
- Urgency to urinate
- Weak or interrupted urine stream
- Difficulty starting or stopping urination
- Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying
Note: This medicine does not shrink the prostate, but improves urine flow by relaxing muscles around the bladder and prostate.
How to Take It
- Take one tablet daily, usually 30 minutes after the same meal each day, preferably breakfast
- Swallow whole with water do not crush, chew, or split the tablet
- Take it at the same time every day to maintain steady effect
- Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor
How It Works
- Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1 receptors in the lower urinary tract
- This causes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to relax, reducing resistance to urine flow
- It provides relief from BPH symptoms without significantly affecting blood pressure (though low blood pressure can still occur in some patients)
Common Side Effects
- Dizziness, especially while getting up from sitting or lying position
- Headache
- Abnormal ejaculation (such as reduced or no semen during ejaculation)
- Runny or blocked nose (nasal congestion)
- Weakness or tiredness
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Back pain
These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, if they persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Serious But Rare Side Effects
- Fainting or severe drop in blood pressure
- Allergic reactions like rash, itching, or swelling
- Priapism (painful erection lasting more than 4 hours rare but serious)
- Floppy iris syndrome during cataract surgery inform your eye doctor if youre on Tamsulosin
Precautions & Warnings
- For men only not recommended for women or children
- Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy
- Avoid alcohol it may increase the risk of dizziness or low blood pressure
- Use caution if you have liver or kidney disorders
- Not suitable for people with a history of low blood pressure, fainting, or sudden drops in BP after standing
- Regular monitoring may be needed for older patients or those on other medications
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are taking:
- Other alpha-blockers (like prazosin, doxazosin)
- PDE5 inhibitors for erectile dysfunction (like sildenafil or tadalafil) may increase risk of low BP
- Blood pressure medicines
- Antibiotics like erythromycin
- Antifungals like ketoconazole
- Antidepressants or sedatives
Storage Instructions
- Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C
- Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
Important Tips
- Do not stand up too quickly from sitting or lying it may cause dizziness
- Continue taking even if symptoms improve stopping may worsen condition
- This is not a cure for BPH it controls the symptoms
- Periodic checkups (including PSA levels) may be needed to monitor prostate health
