Tamsooth?0.4 Tablet (10 Tablets Strip)
Brand: Tamsooth
Manufacturer: Dr. Morepen
Medicine Type: Alpha-1 blocker (for urinary problems)
Pack Size: Strip of 10 tablets

What It Contains

Each tablet contains:

  • Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg
It is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.

Main Uses

Tamsooth-0.4 is primarily used to treat:

  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in men, common after age 50
  • It helps relieve symptoms like:
    • Frequent urination (especially at night)
    • Urgency to urinate
    • Weak or interrupted urine stream
    • Difficulty starting or stopping urination
    • Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying

Note: This medicine does not shrink the prostate, but improves urine flow by relaxing muscles around the bladder and prostate.

How to Take It

  • Take one tablet daily, usually 30 minutes after the same meal each day, preferably breakfast
  • Swallow whole with water – do not crush, chew, or split the tablet
  • Take it at the same time every day to maintain steady effect
  • Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor

How It Works

  • Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1 receptors in the lower urinary tract
  • This causes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to relax, reducing resistance to urine flow
  • It provides relief from BPH symptoms without significantly affecting blood pressure (though low blood pressure can still occur in some patients)

Common Side Effects

  • Dizziness, especially while getting up from sitting or lying position
  • Headache
  • Abnormal ejaculation (such as reduced or no semen during ejaculation)
  • Runny or blocked nose (nasal congestion)
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Back pain

These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, if they persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Serious But Rare Side Effects

  • Fainting or severe drop in blood pressure
  • Allergic reactions like rash, itching, or swelling
  • Priapism (painful erection lasting more than 4 hours – rare but serious)
  • Floppy iris syndrome during cataract surgery – inform your eye doctor if you’re on Tamsulosin

Precautions & Warnings

  • For men only – not recommended for women or children
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy
  • Avoid alcohol – it may increase the risk of dizziness or low blood pressure
  • Use caution if you have liver or kidney disorders
  • Not suitable for people with a history of low blood pressure, fainting, or sudden drops in BP after standing
  • Regular monitoring may be needed for older patients or those on other medications

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Other alpha-blockers (like prazosin, doxazosin)
  • PDE5 inhibitors for erectile dysfunction (like sildenafil or tadalafil) – may increase risk of low BP
  • Blood pressure medicines

  • Antidepressants or sedatives

Storage Instructions
