Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet contains Carbamazepine, a medicine belonging to the group known as Anticonvulsants. It is primarily used to manage certain forms of epilepsy (fits or seizures) and trigeminal neuralgia (a painful condition affecting the face). Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet can also be used to help control the symptoms of bipolar disorder if other medicines have not been effective. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a mental health condition characterized by alternating episodes of mania (sudden, unusually extreme happiness) and depression.
Carbamazepine, the active ingredient in Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet, works by reducing the abnormal activity of nerve cells in the brain, thereby controlling seizures (fits). It also helps to reduce pain by blocking the transmission of pain signals across the nervous system. Furthermore, it can stabilize your mood by reducing the activation of nerve cells in certain brain regions that cause abnormal mood changes. Your doctor will likely recommend several blood tests before and during your treatment with Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet to monitor your condition.
Before you start taking Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney diseases. Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet is not recommended for individuals who have or have ever had porphyria (a blood disorder), any heart problems, or issues with bone marrow. Avoid consuming alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet as it may lead to unwanted side effects.
Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet should only be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women if your doctor considers it absolutely necessary. It is not recommended for use in children aged below 5 years. The most common side effects of taking Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet are nausea, vomiting, increased bleeding tendency, headache, weight gain, dizziness, and blurred vision. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen. Additionally, inform your doctor immediately if your mood becomes excessively depressed or if you experience thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

Do not stop taking Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet without consulting your doctor, as this may lead to your symptoms reappearing or worsening.
Side effects
Stop taking Tegrital CR 400mg Tablet and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: Serious Side Effects may include severe skin reactions (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome), unusual bleeding or bruising, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), persistent fever, sore throat or mouth ulcers (signs of blood disorders), severe abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), or significant changes in mood, depression, and thoughts of self-harm or suicide. Common Side Effects often include nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, blurred or double vision, unsteadiness, dry mouth, increased bleeding tendency, changes in blood test results, weight gain, fatigue, and a mild skin rash.
